So why not take advantage of our "Stay Longer and Save" 3 or 4 night packages. Base yourself at arguably Australia's best regional motel and head off on a wine, dine and explore adventure each morning after breakfast.
Don't forget your camera as there is a postcard around every corner.
- Take a stroll down High Street Strathalbyn (home of some of the finest antique shops in the nation). Maybe a coffee at Appleseed Cafe or jack's Cafe and Bakery. A walk through The Soldiers Memorial Garden and along the banks of the Angas River before heading on today's scenic adventure. Drive through the picturesque rolling hills and farmlands encountering the hamlets of Macclesfield, Echunga and Mylor before reaching Aldgate and Stirling. From there head back along the freeway to Hahndorf (Australia's oldest surviving German settlement). There is still a strong German flavour in Hahndorf, most evident in the smallgoods outlets and German bakeries. Several boutique cellar doors have recently opened in the main street and trendy eateries serve the freshest and best local produce. No trip to Hahndorf is complete without a visit to Beerenberg Farm. Sample the range of jams, marmalades, chutneys, sauces, marinades, pickles, dressings, dessert sauces and olive oil. Head back to STRATH MOTEL via Mount Barker and maybe later in the evening enjoy a meal at one of Strathalbyn's dining spots.
- Today is a trip to the coast. Your camera will be working overtime. A drive down Alexandrina Road from Strathalbyn passing through Currency Creek and follow the signs to Victor Harbor. Relax aboard the historic Horse Drawn Tram to Granite Island. Drop into the Victor Harbor Tourist and Information Centre and mention that you are staying at STRATH MOTEL. The friendly and knowledgeable staff will point you in the right direction. You may even spot a whale or two close to the shore. Time to head towards Goolwa but make certain that you stop at Port Elliot and photograph the stunning coastline of Horseshoe Bay and Basham Beach. Lunch at Goolwa (our choice would be Hectors on the Wharf). Drive across the bridge to Hindmarsh Island or pay a visit to the Goolwa Barrage (interesting and informative). Groups of seals quite often frequent this area. A walk around the streets of Goolwa and back to STRATH MOTEL via Clayton Bay, Milang and Langhorne Creek. If you have time drop into the award winning wineries including Bremerton, Bleasedale, Rusticana, Lake Breeze and Angas Plains. Head home to Strathalbyn and maybe enjoy wine and cheese in your room.
- Drive north from Strathalbyn along Callington Road and follow the signs to Monarto Zoological Park. Monarto commenced in 1983 as a closed special purpose breeding area. It is now an International standard conservation, national and zoological bio-park that supports education and public recreation. Gates open at 9.30am every day of the year. A short drive will take you to Murray Bridge (quite a picturesque town steeped in history). Head on to Tailem Bend where you will find Old Tailem Town. First established in 1982 Old Tailem Town is now Australia's largest pioneer village. A leisurely drive through Wellington where you will cross the River Murray and back to STRATH MOTEL via Langhorne Creek (just in case you need to top up on those wine and local produce supplies). Enjoy a meal tonight at either the Victoria Hotel or Commercial Hotel in Strathalbyn where the first drink is on us.
- Have you tried the yummy home cooked breakfast and plunger coffee on STRATH MOTEL rooms service breakfast menu? Made from local bacon and eggs supplied by local farmers. You will drive past these farms in Ashbourne today. Heading west on Paris Creek Road, experience the picture perfect undulating hills and valleys before reaching the tiny town of Meadows and then head towards Kangarilla. Interesting little villages worth getting out of the car to stretch your legs. A short drive south and you hit McLaren Vale. There is something for everyone at McLaren Vale ranging from dozens of world class wineries to The Goodieson Brewery to The Blessed Cheese Shop and Providore to The Almond Train. McLaren Vale has it all. Pay a visit to the state of the art McLaren Vale Tourist Visitor Information Centre. Continue to Willunga home of the Willunga Glass Studio. Back to STRATH MOTEL passing through Mount Compass and Ashbourne. If you are heading for Adelaide travel north from McLaren Vale (approximately 35 kilometres).
